Where is Day Camp In The Park?

Our camp facility is located off exit 16 of the Palisades Parkway on magnificent Lake Tiorati.

We are 15 minutes from Clarkstown and 35 minutes from the George Washington Bridge.

What are the hours of camp?

Camps runs from approximately 9:00AM to 4:00PM

Who leads each group and the ratio of campers to counselors?

Most groups are led by licensed, certified teachers and they have two

Assistants and two CIT’s (9th and 10th graders). There are approximately 13/15 children per group.

How will my child be placed in a group?

Children are placed by age, grade and sex.

The nursery (four and five year olds) is coed.

What does the price include?

Door to door transportation is provided in almost every case.

Hot lunch is available at a nominal fee. All lunches are refrigerated and all children are given lemonade/snack, and ice cream at the end of each day.

What should my child bring to camp?

Your child should wear sneakers every day. Also, a towel, bathing suit, sun tan lotion, and a sweatshirt for a cold, rainy day should be brought to camp each day. Sometimes, children like to bring two bathing suits depending upon the weather.

What is the percentage of returning campers and staff?

90% of senior staff members and approximately 70% of our campers

return to camp each year.

What happens if my child is not an athlete?

Our philosophy is opportunity, exposure and experience for all our children. However, no one is forced to participate in any activity. Our incredible array of activities (from sailing to skateboarding, art to archery) offers programs for each type of child.

What do we teach at camp?

Our licensed professionals teach swimming, softball, basketball, boating, karate, gymnastics, soccer, tennis and skateboarding. An appreciation of nature with our “Project Adventure” program is selected by a number of our campers.

Who provides for my child if she becomes sick or ill?

A licensed RN school nurse is on staff to take care of our children.

If necessary, we will drive the child home during the day.

Where do most of our campers come from?

45%% from Manhattan

40% from Rockland

15% from Orange, lower Westchester and parts of northern New Jersey

What happens if my child is having a problem at camp?

In almost all cases a licensed teacher directs each group. They are prepared and experienced in dealing with children. In addition, we employ social workers and school psychologists to help remedy a situation.

Can parents visit DCITP?

Parents are welcome to visit on almost any day. We just ask that you call first.

What makes DCITP different?

Licensed teachers direct each group.

Professionally trained staff in various facets of child development and recreation are employed to assist our children.

Our camp is a 500 acre nature preserve (allows for space for each child) with our own three mile lake for our waterpark and boating center; a skateboard park, nature trails, professionally designed softball/soccer field makes our camp truly unique.

Who directs DCITP?

Ken Glotzer started DCITP 30 years ago. He is the director.

In addition, he has established camping opportunities for children from China, Japan, Korea, Spain and Russia to attend our camp.

He previously directed Ramaquois and the RCC Sports Academy.

Key Personnel

Ken Glotzer - started DCITP thirty years ago. He has introduced "the day camp experience" to children from China, Korea, Japan, Spain and Russia. He also created the first school/day camp for many public schools in NYC.

Previously, he directed Ramaquois Day Camp and the RCC Sports Academy.

Stu Fliesser - Operations Manager for the past 25 years. He is also the director of transportation and is responsible for all data - group lists, bus lists, lunch lists, etc.

Paul Finkelstein - assistant director and program director for the past 20 years. He is a NY state licensed principal and all staff report to him. He is also responsible for all interactions between campers and staff. He coordinates all events and special activities.

Andrew Verebes - He is the unit head for staff. He serves as a direct liaison between the administration and staff. He also directs our mini-travel program and CIT program. He takes pictures for our website. He is a licensed social worker and he helps counselors and children adjust to our camp. Andrew assists in making sure that the needs of our campers are met.

Joe Garcia - assists in the office with administrative duties and often answers the phone after camp hours. He also directs the CIT program with Andrew Verebes.

Karen Glotzer - She helps Ken in communicating with parents, staff and children during the off-season. She is the director of our foods service operations.
